Sigenergy and EV Charging: Future-Ready Power for Your Driveway

Sigenergy EV charger Sunshine Coast

What Makes the Sigenergy EV Charger Sunshine Coast Different?

If you’ve made the switch to an electric vehicle (or you’re planning to), you’ve probably already discovered one of the biggest pain points: slow charging at home.

Most homes across the Sunshine Coast (from Caloundra to Coolum to Cooroy) use standard 7kW AC EV chargers. They do the job, but they’re not quick.

Anyway, all of that is fine if you’re charging overnight, but if you forget to plug in, or you’re on the go, it’s not ideal.

Pro tip myth buster: A full recharge from 0% can take 8 to 12 hours, depending on your car. However, that stat is really not fair because EV drivers rarely charge from zero, they charge more often.

Sigenergy’s Sigen EV charger changes that.

This next-generation unit supports up to 22kW AC charging, which, in plain English means it can:

  • Cut charge times by up to two-thirds (if your EV supports it)
  • Prepare your home for faster EVs in future
  • Seamlessly connect with your solar and battery system

The definition of pain point

The people who are challenged by (or “hate”) the idea of charging at home over hours (instead of filling up within minutes at a petrol station) are actually not EV drivers. They are people who have anxiety over changing their vehicle from petrol to electric, and seem to be negatively influenced by propaganda. I can say for sure that I have never met a single EV driver who would go back to petrol cars based on the fact that it takes time to charge a car at home!!!

Pro tip: and another myth buster: People tend to LOVE the idea of EVs because they can plug in at home. They manage the energy well and work out when to go to a public charger (and plan their activities accordingly… just as you have to with a petrol car).

As someone who owns an EV, I wouldn’t call charging at home a pain point. I can think of nothing better than plugging in at home, with free energy from the sun (via panels or battery) and not having to smell petrol! The speed of charging can sometimes be annoying, but it’s not painful. Anyway, I digress.

How the 22kW AC Charging Works

Let’s break it down. The 22kW figure refers to AC (alternating current) charging, not DC (direct current) fast charging like Tesla Superchargers or highway charge stations.

To access 22kW speeds at home, you’ll need:

  • 3-phase power at your property (many newer homes have this)
  • An EV with a 22kW onboard AC charger (not all models include this)
  • Compatible wiring and installation, done by a licensed electrician

Pro tip and very important note: Your car may not be able to charge as fast as your AC charger’s capabilities. Many EVs in Australia are still limited to 7.4kW onboard AC charging, so even if your charger can deliver 22kW, the car may not be able to take it… yet. In short, if you want faster charging at home, it usually relies on VEHICLE CHOICE!

So Why Does Installing a 22kW Charger Matter?

Even if your current vehicle isn’t compatible with 22kW, having a faster-capable charger at home gives you a future-proof advantage.

  • As more EVs arrive in the Aussie market, higher-speed AC charging will become standard.
  • It’s ideal for two-EV households, commercial vehicles, or car-share setups.
  • It keeps your home resale-ready for the growing market of EV buyers.

And because it’s part of the Sigen Energy Ecosystem, the charger integrates with your solar, battery and app: There is no need for multiple control systems.

EV Charging that Plays Nice with Solar

One of the best things about the Sigenergy charger is how smart it is with solar usage.

If your system is producing excess solar (e.g. in the middle of the day), the charger can prioritise solar-only charging, so you top up your EV without pulling from the grid.

This means that you have:

  • Lower power bills
  • More control over where your energy goes
  • Efficient use of your solar investment

Some homeowners even schedule EV charging during solar peak times using the Sigenergy app…and that way there is no need to remember to plug in at night.

Clean Design, Smart App, and Easy Control

Like the rest of the Sigenergy system, the EV charger is built with:

  • Minimalist industrial design (no ugly wall boxes)
  • A single Sigen App to control battery, panels, EV charging and more
  • Flexible mounting options for homes and businesses

It looks sharp, performs reliably, and simplifies energy management in one interface.

Who Should Consider a Sigenergy EV Charger?

Here’s a quick checklist. If you tick two or more, this could be a game-changer for your setup:

  • You already have or plan to install a Sigenergy battery system
  • You’re tired of slow overnight charging
  • Your home has 3-phase power
  • You plan to upgrade your EV to one with 22kW onboard AC charging
  • You want your EV charging powered by solar, not the grid
  • You’re building a new home or retrofitting with smart energy in mind
